FG to establish emerging technologies centres nationwide.

During the virtual Digital Africa Annual Conference on Tuesday, themed: Building a New Africa with AI and Blockchain, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) revealed that a national policy on emerging technologies which will further support establishment of emerging technology centres in Nigeria is underway.
Patami also stated that emerging technologies have the potential for world domination and Nigeria aims to take advantage of its vast potential to become a leading nation in Africa.

CBN, Huawei Clouds, Five Others Join IXPN Network.

The Chief Executive Officer of IXPN, Mr. Muhammed Rudman, disclosed in a recent statement that the Central Bank of Nigeria, Huawei Clouds, and five other organisations recently joined the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN).
He also mentioned that Orange Telecoms, Proline Technologies, Ciudad Infrastructure Limited, Choice2mobile Technologies Limited, and Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited, were the organisations that recently joined the exchange.

Nigeria has Highest Prevalent Rate of Sickle Cell Worldwide, Says Govt.

The federal government of Nigeria has confirmed that the country currently ranks highest in rate of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in the whole world ahead of Democratic Republic of Congo and India.
Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said the country has an estimated 25 percent of her adult population being carriers of defective S-gene.

Chad, Cameroon, Niger — FG deploys ex-service chiefs as ambassadors to Nigeria’s neighbours.

On Wednesday, through it’s official Koo account, the federal government announced the deployment of ex-service chiefs as ambassadors to neighbouring countries.
Saddique Abubakar, former chief of air staff, was deployed to Chad, Ibok-Ete Ibas, ex-chief of naval staff, was deployed to Ghana; Tukur Buratai, former chief of army staff, was deployed to Benin Republic while Abayomi Olonisakin, former chief of defence staff, was deployed to Cameroon, Sani Usman, a former defence chief, was deployed to Niger Republic.

FG Seeks Amendment of NEPZA Act to Ease Operations at FTZs.

The Federal Government Nigeria called for the amendment of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) Act, to address issues affecting seamless operations of Free Trade Zones (FTZs) across the country.
Francis Fadahunsi, the Chairman Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, made the call during an oversight visit, alongside board members of NEPZA to the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ) in Lagos.
