NIGERIA RECEIVES THE FIRST BATCH OF OXFORD/ASTRAZENECA COVID-19 VACCINES
Nigeria has received its first batch of Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility.
The first batch which contains 3,920,000 doses arrived at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja on Tuesday.
Nigeria health officials said that the vaccination plan will be in four phases with top government officials and frontline health workers receiving first.
According to the Secretary-General Federation, Mr Boss Gida Mustapha, “Today marks a milestone in the history of our national response against Covid-19.”
“These vaccines are safe and effective. They are for the good and wellbeing of Nigeria.”
The Federal Government will work with Ca-COVID to transport the vaccines to states. States with no functional airport have the vaccines transported by road using vans with fitted cold cabins from the nearest airport.
